WHO?
Aric Davis. Writer, husband, and father to an awesome daughter. Before I was an author I was
a body piercer for just shy of 17 years at Mos Eisleys in Grand Rapids, MI, and late last year I
began writing full time. I am covered in tattoos, have huge holes in my lip and ears, and I love
punk rock.
WHAT? What do you enjoy doing other than writing in your spare time?
I really, really like roller coasters, and theme parks in general. Right now my three favorite
coasters are Intimidator 305 at King’s Dominion, Skyrush at Hershey Park, and Maverick at
Cedar Point. I realize that this is a super silly hobby for a man my age to have, but my daughter
really enjoys them too, so for at least a few more years this won’t be too weird. After that I’ll
have to just not care that people think I’m a little off. Shouldn’t be a problem.
I also really enjoy punk music and independent music in general, and I think you should listen
to: Restorations, Mixtapes, RVIVR, Banquets, and Captain We’re Sinking.
WHEN? When did you know you wanted to be a writer?
I always wanted to be a writer, but I hated writing all through school. I never realized it at the
time, but holding a pen or pencil is incredibly uncomfortable to me, and that coupled with a
raging case of ADHD-and a dislike of all things structured-made me work about as hard in
school as your average dog. Years later I decided to try my hand at writing, and surprisingly, I
loved it. These days there are few things that I enjoy more than time spent fighting a story, and I
don’t expect that to change any time soon.
WHERE? Where do you write?
It used to be on the bench where I pierced people, but now I scribble at the kitchen table. Years
spent pounding the keys in the hustle and bustle of a tattoo shop have allowed me to create in
pretty much any situation, and I’m darn lucky for it.
WHY? Why do you write?
Because to me there are few things cooler or more respectable than the printed word. Not to
mention, I’m not sure it would be good for me to just keep all of these stories in my head.
Aric Davis’ novel The Fort is available now on Amazon.com. At turns heartbreaking and
breathtakingly thrilling, The Fort perfectly renders a coming-of-age story in the 1980s, in those
final days of childhood independence, discovery, and paradise.
