Fighting Redemption by Kate McCarthy

Ryan Kendall has a rough life.   He meets Finlay Tanner and becomes best friends with her brother Jack.  From day one he is taken with Finlay.   She is the girl he loves and would do anything to protect, even if it means protecting her from him.  After graduation high school, Ryan joins the Australian Army.    He trains to be an elite soldier and deploys, numerous times, to Afghanistan.    When he returns home after six years, he stays at Fin’s cottage and knows that he cannot live without her.    This is the story of Ryan’s struggle with self worth, war, and friendships.

My Review:

I started this book late at night and kept reading until early in the morning, only putting it down because my eyes would not stay open any longer.    There is nothing in this book that I did not love, some parts brought tears to my eyes.   The bulk of the book is about the War in Afghanistan, a very tough subject.  But there are so many bright spots.

This is probably my favorite book of the year.   It is not your average love story.  It is so much more.  Fin and Ryan both have found the love of their lives.  But that love is not easy.  As a matter of fact I do not know that I have ever read about two characters working so hard to fight that love.  The story had such turbulent twists and turns, I as the reader could not put it down.   The
fights were extreme and the love was so intense, you cannot help but attach yourself to every character and put yourself into their lives.

Kate McCarthy wrote a book that EVERYONE has to read.    Romance readers will absolutely LOVE it.  I will recommend this to all my friends, bloggers, family, and anyone else who might want to chat about books with me.
