Kimberly Kinrade & Dmytry Karpov. We're a husband/wife writing team who writecontemporary and paranormal romance, urban fantasy, mystery and fantasy. We live in Northern California with our three little girls who also love books and storytelling.
WHAT? What do you enjoy doing other than writing in your spare time?
KK: I don't get much of that as a mother of three and full time author, but when I can pull myself away from my books, dishes and laundry, I love reading, playing games and cuddling with my kids and husband, watching movies and going on walks. I also spend a lot of time on marketing for our books. Someday I'd like to get back into mountain biking, martial arts and traveling, things I did more of before I had kids.
DK: I play video games, mostly RPG and RTS, read books of every genre, play card games with my kids, and cuddle and watch movies with my wife, Kimberly Kinrade.
WHEN? When did you know you wanted to be a writer?
KK: I'm pretty sure I was making up stories in my mother's womb. When I was a little girl and ran out of teeth to sell to the tooth fairy, I started writing short stories and poems to sell to family and neighbors. I got my first 'real' job as a journalist while in college and have been writing professionally ever since—whether as a journalist, ghost writer, professional blogger or novelist.
DK: I started writing my first novel in seventh grade. By then, I knew I'd be a professional writer.
WHERE? Where do you write?
KK: Usually at my desk in my living room, or on my laptop on the couch.
DK: Usually at my desk on my computer, with music blaring through my headphones in order to drown out distractions.
WHY? Why do you write?
KK: Because if I didn't, the insanity would take over my soul. I jest, but not by much. I would write even if I didn't get paid for it. It's like breathing to me. It's not something I could ever stop, even if I wanted to, which I don't. Characters are constantly talking to me, telling me their stories, begging me to write them. The voices won't leave me alone, so I'll never be able to stop writing. (After re-reading this paragraph, I have to wonder how many writers have ended up institutionalized for mental illness throughout history! Lol)
DK: If I didn't write, I'd go crazy. I have too many ideas in my head that need to be expressed, or they'd consume me.
KK: Wow, we both sound kind of insane.
